Common questions about our therapy

We understand that choosing the right therapy for your child comes with questions. Here are clear answers to help your family prepare for a wonderful session.

What is equine-assisted physical therapy (hippotherapy)?

Hippotherapy is a treatment strategy used by licensed physical therapists where the rhythmic, multidimensional movement of a horse is utilized to improve posture, balance, coordination, and functional mobility.

Who can benefit from equine therapy?

Children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, spina bifida, genetic disorders, and sensory processing differences often see significant benefits.

Does my child need previous riding experience?

No riding experience is necessary. Our gentle therapy horses are led by experienced handlers, while licensed physical therapists closely support and guide your child at every moment.

How do we get started with sessions?

You can start by emailing us directly. We will obtain and review medical history, conduct an evaluation, and establish personalized treatment goals.

What should my child wear to sessions?

Children should wear comfortable, flexible pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and weather-appropriate layers. Safety helmets are fitted and provided on-site.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions are held at Sassy Stables in Greer, South Carolina, featuring open arenas and covered space as needed for ground based physical therapy interventions.
